Description: If you’re considering a new job in a different practice setting, you’ll want to tune into this webinar. We’ve invited Drs. Richard Duszak, Toyin Idowu, and Amy Patel to share their experiences, lessons learned, and advice on transitioning from one practice setting to another. They’ll talk about ideal criteria recruiters are looking for, how to establish and maintain relationships across practice settings, and things you can do in advance to set yourself up for a smooth transition.

Richard Duszak Jr, MD, F
Dr. Duszak is Professor and Chair of the Department of Radiology at the University of Mississippi Medical Center (UMMC) in Jackson, Mississippi.

Past Council Speaker and current member of Board of Chancellors of the , Dr. Duszak currently serves as Chair of the ’s Commission for Leadership and Practice Development and in that role oversees its Radiology Leadership Institute. An outspoken supporter of evidence-based policy and longtime leader in physician payment policy, including former CPT Editorial Panel executive committee member, he has served on the editorial boards of several medical journals and a daily metropolitan newspaper.

Recognized by the Academy for Radiology and Biomedical Imaging Research with its Distinguished Investigator Award and the Association of University Radiologists with its Radiology Alliance for Health Services Research Achievement Award, Duszak has been honored as a fellow of the , a fellow of the Society of Interventional Radiology, and as the first ever physician fellow of the Radiology Business Management Association. His scholarly pursuits focus largely on radiology health policy (particularly imaging access and workforce, utilization, and payment systems). He has authored over 300 peer-reviewed publications and delivered over 500 national invited lectures.

A graduate of the Pennsylvania State University College of Medicine, Duszak completed his residency in diagnostic radiology at Duke University and his fellowship in vascular and interventional radiology at the University of Pennsylvania. He came to UMMC from Emory University where he served as Professor and Vice Chair for Health Policy and Practice in the Department of Radiology and Imaging Sciences. Prior to joining Emory, Duszak served as Founding Chief Executive Officer of the Harvey L. Neiman Health Policy Institute. He previously spent nearly two decades in private practice, where he served as president of a large radiology group in his home state of Pennsylvania.

Oluwatoyin R. Idowu, MD
Dr. Toyin Idowu joined Fairfax Radiology November 2018, specializing in Neuro Imaging. Her training in Diagnostic Radiology and subspecialty training in Neuroradiology was completed at Johns Hopkins Hospital. She subsequently became Assistant Professor at Johns Hopkins Hospital and Chief of Neuroimaging at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center. Her area of expertise and research has been in stroke, vascular and perfusion imaging.

Amy K. Patel, MD
Dr. Amy K. Patel is a Board-Certified Radiologist who specializes in Breast Imaging. She is a Breast Radiologist, Medical Director of The Breast Care Center at Liberty Hospital, Managing Partner of Alliance Radiology, and Assistant Professor of Radiology at the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Medicine.

Dr. Patel is a graduate of the combined BA/MD accelerated program at the University of Missouri-Kansas City. She completed her Diagnostic Radiology Residency at the University of Kansas-Wichita where she served as the first female chief resident in an all male program. She completed her Breast Imaging Fellowship at Mallinckrodt Institute of Radiology Washington University in Saint Louis.

Dr. Patel's professional interests include recruitment of women in radiology, serving as President of the American Association for Women in Radiology Board. Her interests also include mentorship and social media, serving as Associate Editor for Digital Media for the Journal of the .

Her research interests include breast health equity, digital breast tomosynthesis and artificial intelligence.

She also has an avid interest in radiology political advocacy, serving on the RADPAC Board and is Chair of the Radiology Advocacy Network. She is also a former Rutherford Lavanty Fellow in Government Relations. She is also the first female and youngest radiologist recipient of the Howard Fleishon MD Advocate of the Year Award. She is a staunch advocate for patients receiving access to standard radiological care, particularly in the realm of annual mammography screening beginning at age 40. Consequently, she was involved in helping pass the bill in the state of Missouri ensuring annual screening 2D and 3D mammography coverage beginning at age 40 in average risk women as well as the more recent bill ensuring coverage for above average risk women in accordance to recommendations. As a result of these efforts, she is the 2021 recipient of the Kansas City Medical Society's Patient and Community Advocate Award. She was also named the 2022 Kansas City Chiefs Fan of the Year due to her community impact and love of the team.
