On Sept. 21, the 黑料网® (黑料网®) responded to a request for information (RFI) from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) on a public-private partnership to further innovation in pediatric medical devices. The 黑料网 letter recommended that the future partnership broadly help advance radiology AI software device innovations intended for use with pediatric patient populations, as these populations are increasingly left behind by private sector investments in the radiology AI space.
Specifically, the 黑料网 recommended that the NIH’s future public-private partnership enable pediatric data availability, support validation or re-training of (adult) AI software for pediatric uses, support new research and development of pediatric-inclusive or pediatric-specific AI innovations, identify financial incentives for development and use of pediatric AI software devices, encourage federal agencies to prioritize regulatory review of software devices intended for use on pediatric patients, and promote AI transparency.
