The Medicare Payment Advisory Commission (MedPAC) released its last week. The data book provides insights into national healthcare and Medicare spending, including data about demographics, beneficiary access to care and quality of care.
MedPAC data showed imaging accounted for 11% of Medicare hospital outpatient prospective payments, while accounting for 20% of volume. Within the physician fee schedule allowed charges, imaging made up 10.5% of allowed charges in 2021. MedPAC found a decline in encounters with primary care physicians occurred across a broad range of services, including evaluation and management services, tests, procedures and imaging services.
