The RLI is committed to strengthening the radiology leadership community by recognizing the achievements of current leaders and providing scholarships for future ones.

Philips Emerging Leader Scholarship

This scholarship offers residents and fellows a unique opportunity to hone essential skills in medical leadership and the business of radiology. Tailored for trainees who are passionate about leadership and dedicated to advancing the field, it supports the next generation of radiology leaders ready to drive the future of healthcare.

  • Past leadership experience.
  • Substantiated and sustained interest in leadership development.
  • Personal qualities that indicate the candidate has exceptional leadership potential.

  • Current ºÚÁÏÍø member.
  • Currently enrolled as a resident or fellow in an ACGME-accredited U.S. or Canadian Residency/Fellowship Program.
  • Will be an R3-R4 or a fellow as of the RLI Summit in September 2026.
  • Prior engagement with RLI programs.
  • Must be able to attend the 2025 RLI Summit , September 26-28.
  • Willing to complete 20 hours of Philips-led coursework and activities including the writing of a white paper.

Complete the application form and include the following as attachments:

  • Document describing past leadership experience, past engagement with RLI programs, such as individual courses or programs in which you have participated
  • Your short and long-term professional goals.
  • Why you’d like to be considered for the Philips Emerging Leaders RLI Scholarship and how you plan to use the knowledge gained from the one-year Philips Executive Mentorship program.
  • One letter of recommendation from your current residency or fellowship program director or department chair which includes a statement that you can participate in all the RLI programs and activities associated with the one-year Philips Executive Mentorship program.
  • Current CV.

  • RLI Kickstart Your Career Workshop (Fall 2025)

  • Access to a one-year, Philips led cohort-based, executive mentorship program that includes:
    • Self-paced learning around topics including the Future of AI, Partnerships, Sustainability and Patient Centricity
    • Mentor assignments based on topics
       

Impact in LeadershipAward

This award recognizes an individual whose participation in an RLI course or program was integral to the successful completion of a specific project or initiative at the individual’s practice or institution.

  • A noteworthy initiative to enhance their department or practice; documentation of steps taken and outcomes achieved.
  • Articulate how knowledge gained from RLI programming was integral to the success of their project. Reflect on lessons received from the RLI program and explain how the specific skills learned were applied to the initiative.

  • Current ºÚÁÏÍø membership.
  • Are post-training.
  • Participated in at least one RLI program.
  • Strong alignment with award criteria.
  • Please note that current RLI Board members are ineligible for this award.

  • Completed project description from the candidate (no nominations, please) that describes the following (maximum 3 pages):
    • How the RLI experience enabled you to pursue your project (provide as much detail as possible).
    • What specific skills were gained from that RLI experience and how they were put into practice.
    • A detailed description of the specific project and associated outcomes documenting noteworthy enhancements to the practice or institution.
  • One letter of recommendation from someone familiar with or who benefited from the initiative. 
  • Current CV.

  • Complimentary registration, lodging and travel to the RLI Summit.
  • Recognition at the RLI Summit.
  • Recognition in ºÚÁÏÍø publication.
     

Leadership LuminaryAward

This award recognizes the lifetime achievements fo individuals who have dedicated their careers to advancing radiology or radiation oncology. This prestigious honor celebrates exceptional leadership, innovation and lasting impact on the field.

  • Thought leadership and outstanding citizenship in radiology or related fields.
  • Passionate goal setting and leading by example.
  • Integrity: principled and morally framed leadership.
  • Unwavering commitment to advancing organizations.
  • Effective mentoring.
  • Innovative vision for positive change.
  • Quantifiable professional achievements.

  • Must be an active or retired ºÚÁÏÍø member.
  • A high level of leadership with at least 15 years of sustained excellence (post-training).
  • Must exhibit all of the criteria listed above.
  • Involvement in the RLI as faculty or participant is strongly encouraged.
  • RLI board and ºÚÁÏÍø BOC are ineligible.

  • All submissions must include:
    • One nomination letter (up to two pages) summarizing how the nominee has shown/exhibited the award criteria.
    • One letter of recommendation (up to two pages).
    • Current CV.
    • Note: at least one of the letters should be from an individual who is not a member of the nominee’s current department, practice, or workplace. 
  • Self-nomination is not permitted.
  • Current members of the RLI Board cannot nominate candidates nor write letters of recommendation.
  • Current members of the Board of Chancellors cannot submit nominations nor write letters of recommendation.

  • Complimentary registration for the RLI Summit.
  • Travel and lodging for the winner and a guest to attend the RLI Summit Awards Dinner.
  • Recognition at the RLI Summit Awards Dinner.
  • Recognition in ºÚÁÏÍø publication.

HonoringWomen in Radiology

The Foundation of the American Society of Neuroradiology (FASNR), ºÚÁÏÍø® (ºÚÁÏÍø®) and American Association for Women Radiologists (AAWR) established an award to provide leadership opportunities for women in neuroradiology. This award supports mid-career women with demonstrated leadership potential in radiology through administration, education, research and practice. The objectives are to provide recipients with skills and insights to enhance their advancement opportunities. .

The Dr. Katherine A. Shaffer Award for the RLI offers one scholarship each year for an AAWR member to attend the Radiology Leadership Institute® Summit.

The Samir B. Patel, MD and Family Scholarship for the RLI offers three scholarships each year for an AAWR member to attend the Radiology Leadership Institute Summit.

Chapter Scholarship Program

The RLI has collaborated with over 15 chapters to provide financial assistance for residents, fellows and members-at-large to attend RLI programs. Chapters are creating a leadership track for their members. A chapter RLI Scholarship Fund will prepare members for leadership roles, teach essential business skills and much more.

Vanderbilt-ºÚÁÏÍø Radiology Leadership Institute Scholarship

In 2023, Vanderbilt’s Department of Radiology and Radiological Sciences announced the launch of a new scholarship that provides financial support for VUMC radiologists to participate in a variety of RLI programs.
