Diverse leadership brings together not only individuals of different genders, races and ethnicities, but also those with different backgrounds, personal and professional experiences, and values. This range of diverse voices adds value to an organization's direction and decision-making process -- a principle integral to DCMRS' mission of advancing the practice of radiology, and establishing and maintaining high medical and ethical standards in the practice of radiology.

Paired with the rapid growth of the HeForShe movement, the strong female leadership within the DCMRS chapter has fueled our commitment to championing diversity and inclusion in all facets of the field of radiology, from clinical research and continuing education to patient care and advocacy.

As I step into the role of DCMRS President soon alongside an all-female executive board, we are committed to continuing to build engagement with our radiology community and cultivating strong leaders.

Our rising Vice President, Bonnie Davis, MD, hails from Howard University College of Medicine – one of only four accredited HBCU medical schools in the United States. Her involvement in DCMRS has driven higher engagement with chapter activities and resident education opportunities.

We have invited speakers on a range of important academic and social issues, from implementation of AI and breast cancer screening to climate health and sustainability. Incorporating the range of topics keeps our members informed and up-to-date, often introducing them to new concepts and concerns. We feel this is one of our duties as a chapter, and we are grateful for the opportunity to broaden the scope of what it means to be a radiologist in the DC metropolitan region.
